黃生攝。Photo by Wong Sang.落成於一九零九年的『中央監獄』為一南歐城堡式建築，樓高兩層，外形仿西方古堡式，外圍高牆，四角建有哨所，『中央監獄』興建時,所處位置是荒郊野外，四周鮮有民居，數十年後城市發展,監獄位置四周已民居林立，故被稱為『市牢』。Built in 1909, central prison was designed as a Southern European Style building. It was two stories high. Its appreance mimicked European Castles. It had tall walls and posts set up at all four of its corners. The prison was located in a remote area. Only a handful of people lived around the location. Decades later, the city developed and expanded to this region. The prison was surrounded by residents. Therefore, the name “city jail” was invented.
